But not sure which freelancing gig is right for YOU?

Stay tuned because in this blog, I’m going to count down the 5 of the most in-demand freelancing skills right now – so you can pick the one you vibe with most, GET.TO.WORK. and get paid.

Oh, and you’ll want to stick around to the end for a special surprise from me that will help you get started right away.

But first, wanna hear something so rad?

The U.K. recently designated June 16th as National Freelancer’s Day!!! Which is tomorrow, if you’re reading this on the day it’s released. This makes the U.K. the first country ever to give national recognition to this growing,  and thriving industry.

So mad props to the U.K. for trailblazing this new holiday, and let’s hope that other countries follow suit…

Now, in honor of the U.K.’s newly named National Freelancer Day, I thought we should pay tribute to this amazing – though slightly unconventional – career path.

Here are a just a few of the reasons that freelancing is amazing (and on the rise):

Better Quality Of Life

A 2015 survey found that freedom, choice, and flexibility often equal happiness… so it’s really no surprise that freelancers are happier than workers who are in more of a traditional 9-to-5 type of job.

ReportLinker found that freelancers are more optimistic and happier than traditional workers. – with 84% of freelancers saying they find a real sense of purpose in what they do.

And not only that, but the majority of freelancers also report they are receiving better compensation, and attaining better work/life balance.

Add all that together, and your overall quality of life improves dramatically!

Reinventing The “Work Day”

When you’re a freelancer, you work for yourself.

Which means that YOU are in complete control of the hours you work, how heavy your workload is, what type of clients you’ll work with, how much you charge, and what skills you learn.

This level of job freedom and flexibility is life-changing. And one of the top reasons freelancers say they could never go back to a regular 9-5.

There’s Something For Everyone

Probably one of the coolest things about freelancing is that it’s so diverse. There really is something for everyone!

From the more common trades – like writing and photography to trades that are a bit more out there – like rocket scientists, bounty hunters, and even baby name consultants… The options are truly endless.

Ang that brings us to… our list of the BEST, most highly-demanded freelancing skills out there TODAY.

Let’s get into it…

#1 – Writer

Yep – topping the list is probably no surprise to you… It’s my personal favorite and the freelance business I started over a decade ago – writing!

The coolest thing about writing is that literally ALL businesses around the world need it. And they need MULTIPLE forms of it – copy and content.

So, what’s the difference?

Content writing is what creates brand loyalty and engagement (which is essential for businesses these days). This is usually done through the form of blog posts, articles, social media captions, newsletters, and more.

A content writer should be skilled at conversational and captivating writing. And bonus points if they have a general understanding of how keywords play into SEO

Copywriting, on the other hand, is what businesses lean on when it comes to generating leads, conversions and sales – usually through mediums like ads, sales pages, landing pages, sales emails, and even social media captions!

Now, copywriters also need to be skilled at conversational and captivating writing… But on top of that, they also need to have an awareness of psychological triggers, marketing, and how to conduct excellent buyer research.

So if you’ve always dreamed of being a writer… you have a couple of options for making money with your words…

And of course, you’ll want to make sure you’re subscribed to my blog where I have helped rad humans around the world turn their passion for writing into a lucrative freelance business!

Alright, next on the list…

#2 – Social Media Manager

If it’s not on social media… does it even exist?! Haha joking – sort of…

In our modern age of technology, smartphones and apps – ALL businesses really should have a social media presence. That’s because the majority of their customers WANT to follow and engage with them online.

But the thing is, most businesses don’t have the time, energy, or skill to keep up on social media.

And that’s where this freelancing skill comes in.

Social media managers are responsible for managing a brand presence online.

This can include:

  • Developing strategies to increase reach
  • Creating and overseeing social campaigns
  • Staying on top of current trends & producing content
  • Monitoring metrics – like engagement level, conversions, and audience building
  • And of course, actively posting and writing social captions!

If you LOVE all things social media, metrics, and trends – then this might be the perfect freelance biz for you!

On to the next…

#3 – Website Designer

Not every business needs a website… but most, if not all, businesses will benefit from having one!

And in today’s online world, it doesn’t just need to look good, but it also needs to run smoothly and optimally.

I mean there’s nothing worse than a website that was DIY’d and has glitchy images or text you can’t read.

Which means this is a freelancing skill that is in high demand!

Website designers are in charge of planning out, designing, and coding websites.  You’ll need to have a good eye for visual design. Plus a thorough understanding of design software like Photoshop & Illustrator, Javascript, HTML coding, and have impeccable attention to detail.

That sounds like a lot, but you can find online classes for learning all those skills – so if design and/or code is something that interests you, then it’s worth looking into!

Alright, now on to number 4…

#4 – Copyeditor

Who called the grammar police?!

If you’re one of those people who catches EVERY grammar, spelling, and language error… then this is the freelancing gig for you!

Copyediting is a job that every business needs. And that’s because writers aren’t necessarily good spellers OR grammar experts (I know – shocker!)

So that means that businesses not only need to hire excellent writers that can engage their audience, build rapport, and make them sales… but they also need someone to copyedit what their writers have written!

As a copyeditor, you’d be in charge of…

  • Correcting spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax
  • Ensuring consistency in spelling, hyphenation, numerals, fonts, and capitalization
  • Flagging ambiguous or factually incorrect statements

Basically, YOU are the person going through everything with a fine-tooth comb to ensure there are ZERO spelling, punctuation, or grammatical errors before the writing is ready to be viewed by the public.

You could copyedit everything from blogs to sales pages and even novels or magazines!

Alright now, finally on to the last freelancing gig on our list…

#5 – Virtual Assistant

Are you the queen of communication? Can you type faster than you think? Are you a multi-tasking master? Could your organization and time management skills make a type-A green with envy?

If you said ‘YES’, then a freelance virtual assistant (VA) job might be right for you!

VAs are usually hired to handle administrative tasks for an individual, brand, or company.

These tasks often vary, but can include everything from scheduling appointments, making phone calls, data entry, arranging travel,  bookkeeping, organizing emails, managing social media, or even creating content!

Each business will have their own individual needs and desires – so this is a gig that isn’t quite as cut and dry and the rest on this list.

But it’s a gig that’s in VERY high demand and can be incredibly fun & rewarding depending on who your clients are!

So, what do you think?

Are you ready to ditch your desk and embrace the freedom of freelancing?

The good news is there has NEVER been a better (or easier) time to start an online business.

Not only is it easier than ever to learn, practice, and hone your skills online… But more and more businesses are seeing the benefit of outsourcing EXPERTS for the services they need.

Remember, this list wasn’t exhaustive…
