➡️ Copywriting is the art of crafting WORDS for the sole purpose of conversion. ⁠
⁠
The goal of copywriting is to craft messaging that moves leads through a funnel and, ultimately, convinces them to take action. ⁠
⁠
Anytime you want to compel a prospective customer to click a link, call a number, signup with an email address, or buy something 👉🏻 it relies on copy. ⁠

➡️ Marketing, on the other hand, is the wider UMBRELLA term that copywriting falls under. ⁠
⁠
Marketing is also concerned with getting leads and moving them through a funnel. ⁠
⁠
Both marketing and copywriting involve customer analysis, market research, strategy & positioning, conceptualizing hook, and designing campaigns… ⁠

But the difference is...⁠
⁠
Copywriters ALSO need to have the additional creative skillset of crafting the actual messaging that will bring in sales.⁠⁠

In order to be a successful copywriter, you HAVE to know and understand the basics of marketing.⁠

Because it's ✨literally✨ the foundation of what good copy is crafted around...⁠

And having that strong marketing background played a HUGE role in my success as a freelancer copywriter. ⁠

When you understand the marketing funnel - and how all the pieces work together, how to position a product/service to a specific audience, how to get leads, how to build a customer journey, etc...⁠

...then you're going write copy that is SO MUCH MORE effective and powerful. ⁠

Personally, I’m not a big fan of nonfiction reading. ⁠

Sure, there is a time and place when I enjoy a good marketing or personal development book...⁠

But the majority of books I read are FICTION. ⁠
⁠
And guess what? ➡️ It’s still beneficial! ⁠
⁠
I’m not “wasting my time” by reading fiction instead of something “educational”... ⁠
⁠
🙌🏻 Because reading fiction IS educational (just in a less direct type of way)... ⁠
⁠
Reading fiction will teach you how to weave a compelling story...⁠
⁠
How to stir emotions... ⁠
⁠
How to open loops...⁠
⁠
And so much more!⁠
⁠
🤔 Not sure where to start? ⁠
⁠
Think about the genre of movies you enjoy watching or the type of things you enjoy learning about...⁠
⁠
Then go to your local library and browse some books in that genre (ask the librarian to help you!) ⁠
⁠
Most libraries usually have a section towards the front with newly released, more popular books. That can be a good place to get started too. ⁠
⁠
And if educational books ARE your fave, that’s cool too!⁠
⁠
Do whatever works for you. ⁠
⁠
